Paqueta
|
So Paqueta gets into Brazils 1st 11 yet we cannot get a decent ball to him game after game after game.
Kind of say's it all about Moyes doesn't it?

Agree. He definately needs to find some fire in his belly.
Last night I saw he recieved the ball twice in difficult, tight areas and his sublime first touch allowed him to recycle it and move it forward and keep the momentum going.
He also played two lovely through balls with outside of his foot (one on the turn) which, again, were sublime but they weren't killer passes and came to nothing. He got his foot in a few times and won a few headers but that was about the sum of his first half.
Maybe we are expecting too much of him?
I just don't really know. But one thing for sure is you are dead right - If he could twin his ability with some fire that would be a big step forward.

I did call this on here back in September soon after the club wasted so much dough on this fella. Hate to say I told you all so!
Paqueta is a decent technical player but, like Anderson, he is not fired up enough for the Premier League and to be frank his passing is not all that great for this level. He gives the ball away multiple times per game and is dispossessed easily far too often - for both West Ham and Brazil.
I would not be at all surprised if this is the last we see of the fella at the World Cup and someone like Fred will come in for him. I'm minded to think this "illness" he supposedly had before the Switzerland game is a pre-cooked excuse for his upcoming disappearance from the pitch for the rest of Brazil's tournament.

Russ - He's just not aggressive or fired up enough, plays like it's a Sunday morning stroll.
But yea agree, a couple of nice passes a game is absolutely nowhere near enough, goes without saying surely. He's never going to control or dictate a game, he doesn't have any spunk.

I thought he showed some lovely touches and some good passes but, for me, not enough. He's obviously a very talented player with huge amounts of ability. But top influence games and results. Paqueta isn't doing that.
I've now seen him play as an 8 for Brazil and then as a 10 last night. On both occasions I watched him very closely and have to say that over-all I was under-whelmed. I know he's not Neymar and isn't going to play the 10 role as neymar can. But he needs to do more. Hence the reason why he's been hooked twice in two games.
I'm a little worried we've had our pants pulled down by Lyon.

I thought he actually played well today and was surprised he got taken off.

Looks like another fornals to me. No bad thing except for the fact we've already got one and Moyes punts him out to the wing to clean cresswell's dirty aristotle.

Brazil goes on to take victory after Paqueta was hooked. Becoming a bit of a pattern.
I see more and more are cottoning on to what I called early on, that Paqueta is an overrated fraud.

Paqueta is not a Zico or Rivaldo or Socrates type player that perhaps many associate with Brazilian footballers.
He’s an assist king really and quick thinking and passing thru the lines. He relies on movement upfront and all over the pitch. The antithesis of Moyes’s West Ham so I expect him to fail without a change of system and first 11 which is still 2 technical wing backs, a striker and central midfielder short to play an attacking, possession game effectively. IMHO of course :-)

If he was 21 and cost £5m I’d be excited.
At his age and cost I’m not.

More a tactical decision to go wide against a very compact Swiss side. Perfectly understandable.

He’s already done to extremely good pieces of skill to create chances, Moyes will be watching and shaking his head as to why Paqueta didn’t pass it backwards

I feel he needs more space than premier league teams are going to give him. Maybe he just needs longer to adjust.
Even for Brazil it feels like he drifts in and out a bit, will misplace passes but will play the odd superb pass or flick.
